Academic Courses

Do I need an A Level, or equivalent in a relevant subject before being able to study for that particular degree eg BA Religious Studies?
Yes normally, although in some instances it may not be possible to study your subject prior to a degree programme. Applications are dealt with on an individual basis, but your application is strengthened if you can demonstrate experience and/or interest in the subject.

Can I do any of the degree courses on a part time basis?
The majority of our degree programmes are available on a part-time basis.

What if I don't get the expected grades?
Don't panic - it's always a good idea to phone us and check whether we can still accept you. Each application is dealt with on an individual basis therefore various factors are involved other than relying purely on academic ability.

How many hours a week of lectures will I have?
Depending on the nature of your course you could have anything between 10-20 hrs of lectures a week; however plus self directed study, tutorials and seminars are an important element in your studies.

How does the University feel about students who take a gap year?
Trinity considers each application on an individual basis without prejudice. However, due to the specific number of places available on each programme of study it is important that you clearly state your intentions. There is no problem if you state that you will be deferring until the following year, but a problem may arise if you intend to start in the forthcoming academic year, but then decide to defer. Trinity also cannot guarantee that a programme of study available for the forthcoming academic year will be available in the following academic year. Please also note that variable tuition fees will be introduced in England from 2006/07. Welsh HEIs will retain a fixed fee for academic year 2006-07 but students entering HE in that year are advised that the fee regime may change part way through their course.

For further information on this contact the Department for Education and Skills on (01325) 392 822 or email ssin.queries@dfes.gsi.gov.uk

If I miss a lecture can I still obtain the lecture notes?
Occasionally it may be possible to obtain some lecture notes retrospectively via our Blackboard Learning System- but not all, and those which aren't may be obtained by other means- depending on the circumstances by which the lecture was missed in the first place.

The Blackboard Learning System is a Virtual Learning Environment by which you can access information to lectures and notes via your PC. However, it is in your own best interest to attend lectures.

Can I study abroad during my degree?
It is possible you will be offered a chance to study abroad during the 2nd semester of the 2nd year of your degree programme in one of our partner institutions in either Europe or America. However, this isn't always possible depending on the nature of the course. Further details are available from your Course Director / International Office.
