Swine Flu: Guidance and Advice for Students and Staff

Symptoms of swine flu:

The symptoms of swine flu are similar to the symptoms of ordinary flu and may include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Chills
  • Loss of appetite
  • Muscle aches

If you develop flu-like symptoms:

  • Do not come into the University, stay at home and avoid contact with others
  • Call your GP or seek advice from NHS Direct on 0845 4647
  • Do not go to your GP’s surgery unless advised to do so by NHS Direct (0845 4647) or the Swine Flu Information line (0800 1 513 513)
  • You should call your GP directly if you have a serious underlying illness, you are pregnant, you have a sick child under one year old, your condition suddenly gets much worse or your condition is still getting worse after seven days (or five days for a child)
  • Students should contact the Director of Student Services on 01267 676677, or by e-mail on d.rogers@drindod.ac.uk. Students are also advised to contact their personal tutor or Head of School. Students may also wish to contact the Students’ Union on 01267 237794, or by e-mail on supresident@trinity-cm.ac.uk
  • Contact a flu buddy if you require help with obtaining medicines or supplies. The Flu Buddy System (pdf)
  • Staff should contact their line manager and the Human Resources department on 01267 676725 , or by e-mail on personnel@trinity-cm.ac.uk

  • If you are a student based in a hall of residence and develop flu-like symptoms, please isolate yourself in your room and call your GP or contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647.   • If you are a student living off-campus, please isolate yourself in your room and call your GP or contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647. You should also contact the Director of Student Services on 01267 676677, or by e-mail on d.rogers@drindod.ac.uk
