About Trinity

CampusTrinity University College... a vibrant community university that provides good quality degree courses within a supportive environment

Trinity University College is a Church College within the University of Wales. It was established in 1848 as an Anglican Foundation to train teachers for Church schools in Wales and England. Today, the University enjoys an excellent reputation for education, the creative, cultural and performing arts, as well as for courses related to the outdoors and community development. It is a small welcoming community of students and faculty. We offer an international foundation programme, study abroad, undergraduate and graduate programmes with an extensive range of courses on offer.

The University’s campus is an ideal place to study and to live when you are away from home. Having the teaching facilities, information and library services, accommodation and Students’Union on one campus makes it a safe and welcoming environment for students. Sweeping lawns and landscaped areas form a picturesque setting for the mix of Victorian and modern buildings, which include all student residences.

In addition to the academic study, the Cultural Experience is a central part of the international experience at Trinity. It starts when you enrol at the beginning of September and continues throughout your time at the University. When you arrive, the International Office will organise an intensive programme to help you familiarise yourself with your new home. You'll spend your time meeting the faculty and getting to know your fellow students, as well as the University and the town. but it doesn't stop there, during the semester there will be weekly excursions for you to enjoy and fully immerse yourself in the Wales and UK experience.

From the bustle of town life to the quiet tranquility of the countryside, and breathtaking beauty of the sandy beaches, there’s plenty for you to do during your leisure time. The University is surrounded by green fields and hills on the outskirts of Carmarthen, a market town and the commercial centre for a large and thriving area. There’s a good choice of big name shops and supermarkets, places to eat, as well as to socialise in the evenings. Although, perhaps Carmarthen is best known locally for its choice of good home grown quality food, its many art venues and cultural sites, as well as for the many small shops that sell unique goods. From giftware to fashions, its all within walking distance from the University.

The Trinity Choir gives students the opportunity to develop their vocal talents in concerts and competitions and there are also opportunities for soloists to develop their performance skills. Practice sessions are held through the medium of Welsh, but don't worry if you don't speak the language - there are plenty of people to help you but be prepared to sing in any language - Welsh, English and others! Already the choir is making a name for itself, having won the Youth Choir of Wales competition, as well as performing on a number of TV programmes. Recently, the Trinity Chamber Choir travelled to the USA to appear in a number of events as part of the ‘Wales Week in New York’ celebrations.

The Trinity Arts Festival is held annually in June. The Festival, whose patron is internationally renowned composer Karl Jenkins, includes concerts, recitals, theatrical productions, literary events, art exhibitions, as well as competitions for soloists. The vocal competitions feature the Stuart Burrows International Voice Award which offers £5,000 to the winning soloist. There is also a Musical Theatre competition. Students are also involved in a fringe festival which gives them the opportunity to organise and take part in the events with the help of the Festival team.

Students of the School of Theatre and Performance are involved in many productions throughout the year. In 2007/08 they performed Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Playhouse Creatures by April De Angelis, From Morn’ ‘til Midnight by Georg Kaiser, as well as A Rotten Little Story by Jim McCarthy and Be My Baby by Amanda Whittington, both of which toured schools in South and West Wales.

Fine Art students exhibit regularly at the University and at art venues around the region. The Graduate Show is featured during the Trinity Arts Festival and travels to other venues, including regional art galleries.

The School of Creative Arts and Humanities hosts conferences and reading events which enable published authors and students to provide readings of their work. Students benefit from the presence of Parthian Books, a dynamic and successful publisher, on campus, accessing first-hand information on the business of creative writing and providing work placement opportunities.
