Broadening horizons
Opportunities for studying abroad
Trinity enjoys extensive links with a range of institutions of higher education in Europe and recognises the importance of the European dimension in Education. The University, therefore, participates actively in programmes such as Socrates. The Erasmus strand of Socrates assists the mobility of students throughout the European Union and students can apply for financial support to study for a semester at an institution of higher education abroad. Trinity has partner institutions in Austria, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Turkey. Whilst the Erasmus programme offers students the chance to study in Europe, it also offers students from across Europe the opportunity to study in the UK, and each year a number choose to study at Trinity. BA Primary Education students also have the opportunity to spend time studying in Limerick and New Zealand.
Study Abroad Programmes in the USA
Trinity has established exchange programmes with other universities in the USA, which enable students from most degree courses to spend a part of their time studying in the USA, subject to approval from their course leader. The University has welcomed groups of students from all across the USA since 1976. In recent years, it has established a programme with Rio Grande University in Ohio, which has seen both staff and students travelling across the Atlantic to study at each other’s institutions
This year students from the School of Theatre, Music and Media had the opportunity to spend a semester in Rio Grande. The students also took part in the Wales Week in New York programme touring a production of Lonesome Valley, directed by Dr Greg Miller of the University of Rio Grande, as well as Clymau, an original musical by Eilir Owen Griffiths and Ceri Elen. The School of Theatre and Performance has an established exchange programme with California State University, in Fullerton, some 13 miles from Hollywood. Students have enjoyed performing together at Trinity and at the University’s campus in California.
The School of Computing, Business and Tourism have a new link at University of Greensboro in North Carolina.
The University also has study abroad partnerships with the following American institutions:
Hobart William Smith College, New York
Depauw University, Indiana
